HighLevel has stopped issuing new API keys. HighLevel ended support for its older API (v1), which this InboxGeek integration uses, on December 31, 2025, and no longer lets accounts create new API keys. Existing connections keep working while your key stays active. An updated HighLevel connection is in progress. For help, email [email protected].

I can’t find an API key in HighLevel

HighLevel no longer lets accounts create new API keys. If your account never had one, you can’t create one now. Email [email protected] before you start.

  • Sub-account (location) key: open the sub-account, go to Settings → Business Profile, and find API Key in General Information.
  • Agency key: in agency settings, open API Keys (the page is titled Agency API Keys). Agency keys require HighLevel’s Advanced API tier, currently called the Founder Plan.

Return to HighLevel – Getting Started once you have an existing key.

My key is marked Expired, or HighLevel says it is expiring

HighLevel marks legacy keys Expired after 90 days without use. HighLevel says an expired key can be used again after it is rotated or refreshed. Refresh (rotate) it in HighLevel, then paste the current key into InboxGeek under API Key / Token Settings. See Managing Your LiveOpens Integration.

HighLevel’s warning says that integrations using an expiring key may stop working. If InboxGeek stops receiving events, check the key first and contact support if it continues.

The connection check fails

  • Check that you copied the full API key without spaces, and that it is not marked Expired in HighLevel.
  • Check that you are using the key from the HighLevel account or sub-account you intend to connect.
  • Do not email your API key or paste it into a support ticket.
  • If it still fails, email [email protected]. Include your HighLevel account/sub-account name and the time you tried; do not include the key.

I can’t choose or create the right tag

In the List step, choose the tag on the contacts you want InboxGeek to work with. In the Integration step, choose a separate Reception Tag: the tag InboxGeek adds when it sends an event. Pick an existing tag, or type a new name and click Create tag; InboxGeek can create the Reception Tag in HighLevel for you.

Do not rename or delete either tag while the integration is running. InboxGeek uses your contacts and tags. A HighLevel API key gives access to the whole account; HighLevel does not let you limit a v1 key.

Nothing is arriving in HighLevel

  • Check that the source tag has contacts and the Reception Tag is set.
  • The daily limit runs on Eastern Time (ET). InboxGeek starts sending events after midnight ET.
  • InboxGeek may tag between 1.1 and 1.5 times your daily cap. For example, a cap of 200 can result in roughly 220–300 contacts tagged in a day.
  • In HighLevel, the workflow must trigger on the Reception Tag being Added, and it must be Published. It only runs for tags added after publication. See HighLevel – Create an Automation.
  • If you are not ready, turn the integration off. See Managing Your LiveOpens Integration.

Why can’t I see opens or clicks in InboxGeek?

HighLevel does not send workflow stats to InboxGeek, so LiveOpens cannot show opens or clicks for your HighLevel emails. Check results in HighLevel.

Do I need the Webhook integration?

No. HighLevel is separate from InboxGeek’s Webhook integration. This integration works through your API key and tags.
